Leading a team of four you will oversee all aspects of HR for an organization with about 214 employees, with an emphasis on organizational development in the areas of onboarding, training, and strengthening our culture. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a broad background in HR, including a demonstrated track record of effectively identifying and closing performance gaps to create a strong talent mindset and positive impact to the organization's goals and objectives. You also will need strong background in and experience with OD, including organization design, development, management, and transformation.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the President/CEO, you will provide direction to an HR Specialist/Recruiter, Trainer, and two half-time HR Assistants. You'll work closely with the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors as well as with the entire management team at Brooklawn.

Most of our 214 employees are full time and work here on the campus, although we have one group home about a mile away. Brooklawn's staff is comprised of highly skilled professionals who utilize the latest technology within their various fields. The staff includes board certified psychiatrists, clinical social workers, an art therapist, psychological associates, marriage and family therapists, nurses, special education teachers, recreation leaders, a chaplain, and child care staff. In addition we have support staff, including administration, IT, plant services, and more.

Your tasks will include:

• Helping us meet and exceed recruitment and retention goals.
• Ensuring all staff are adequately trained.
• Ensuring the identification and development of leaders throughout the agency.
• Shaping our salary and benefit package so that it is fair and competitive.

Currently we handle the more traditional and transactional aspects of HR very well, and you'll ensure that continues. In addition, you'll bring a new strategic focus to the HR function, identifying opportunities to improve in two areas:

• Recruitment, training, and retention: you will assess our current onboarding and training processes to ensure we are using best practices in setting our people up for success. For example, it's not unusual for us to promote a line level service provider to a supervisor role, and we need to be sure they have the supervisory and leadership skills they need to complement their clinical or practice competence.
• Organizational culture: after getting to know Brooklawn, you will develop and implement programs, in consultation with other leaders, to promote a culture in which people feel connected and engaged, and have a clear understanding of their goals and how they fit into the big picture. This will include establishing performance goals, developing ways to reward high performers in a non-profit operating model, building a sense of continuity even as we change and grow, ensuring collaboration, and more.

Who We Are

Brooklawn's residential programs serve emotionally and behaviorally troubled boys ages 6 to 18 without regard to race, creed, or national origin; we have a licensed capacity of 121. Brooklawn also provides case management, outpatient therapy, and in-home support services to children of all ages and their families. Children are referred to Brooklawn by psychiatric hospitals, public agencies, case management organizations, private practitioners, and families.
